Blackhawk Community CU Sends Students Off To School In Style

JANESVILLE, Wis. – For the fourth year in a row, the Delavan branch of Blackhawk Community Credit Union sponsored a community-wide school supply drive for the Delavan-Darien School District.  This year the community and credit union members pulled together to once again contribute over 2,700 items to the school district.

Seeing a need in the community helped get the plans rolling to once again responding to the students at Wileman, Darien and Turtle Creek elementary schools or Phoenix Middle School and Delavan-Darien High School. 

“Each year we continue to be amazed at the generosity of our community and members,” states Kelly Herwald, Branch Manager.  “Everyone has stepped up again this year to contribute many necessary items for our students.”  A special “jeans day” was held for all BHCCU’s credit union branches, which contributed an extra $250 towards additional needs throughout the schools.

Kunes Country Chevrolet/Ford partnered with the credit union again this year and furnished two vans on site to hold the banner and make the community aware of the program.  The “cram the van” theme also included a radio remote by WSLD on site to keep the community involved in the fun. 

From backpacks, to lunch coolers, pencils, markers and clipboards, many students will receive supplies to head back to school that they may otherwise not have been able to purchase.  Staff from Blackhawk Community CU delivered the supplies to Wileman Elementary for distribution.
