LENEXA, Kan. (Feb. 1, 2011) – Over the past three months, 1,156 Mainstreet Credit Union members skipped making their monthly loan payments – opting instead to make donations to Children’s Miracle Network’s local affiliate University of Kansas Medical Center. These efforts provided members an extra financial cushion to help manage holiday expenses, while raising $17,249.53 to support important programs at the hospital.

The Skip a Payment Program is offered annually at Mainstreet Credit Union, from November 1 through January 31, as a way to ease the pressure on member’s budgets while raising money for a worthwhile cause. Members with loans that are current and accounts in good standing may skip one payment during the program period. The credit union suggests participating members consider a voluntary donation of $10 or more to benefit Children’s Miracle Network. This year’s donation amount increased nearly $3,600 over last year’s total.

“Each year, the Skip A Payment Program proves very popular, as holiday celebrations and end-of-year activities often leave household budgets feeling strained,” said John Beverlin, President/CEO of Mainstreet Credit Union. “And each year, our members’ show their support through voluntary donations to Children’s Miracle Network.”

Mainstreet Credit Union has a long history of supporting programs that promote community well-being, according to Beverlin. It has been serving residents and employees from the metropolitan area since 1953. “This year, we again are pleased to support the Children’s Miracle Network while at the same time providing our members with a valuable benefit.”

Children’s Miracle Network was established nationally in 1983 to provide improved health care for millions of children. Today, it has 170 associated hospitals nationwide and raises more than $250

million dollars each year. The credit union industry is one of the Network’s major donors, establishing the Credit Unions for Kids program to raise money in support of Children's Miracle Network.
