October 13, 2010 – Madison, WI – UW Credit Union is proud to announce the launch of a new online banking feature, Text Banking. Text banking is a free service that allows members to interact with and manage their UW Credit Union accounts using text messages on their mobile phones. It offers a quick and easy way to perform some common daily banking functions without having to log in to Web Branch, UW Credit Union’s online banking system.
Text banking can be used by any UW Credit Union member who has a mobile phone with a text messaging (SMS) service and has signed up through Web Branch. Members will be able to check balances of their accounts, transfer money between accounts, initiate Money Link and more, all by using text messages.
"We’ve created this system so members can manage their accounts effectively, wherever they go—even if they don’t have Web access," said Eric Bangerter, director of Internet Services at UW Credit Union. "For instance, in the past, if a member received an automatic low balance alert via text message, they had to log in to Web Branch, either at a computer or with their Web-enabled mobile device with Mobile Banking. Now, if they receive a low balance text, they’re able to text a command to us and transfer funds between accounts and funds will be available immediately."
Text Banking is an easy-to-use solution for members so they can stay on top of their accounts and avoid overdrafts. Members can add this service to the wide array of online tools that they have access to make managing their money easier—such as Web Branch, Mobile Banking, Money Management Tools, My Credit Score and Money Link.
"We’re excited to provide this additional layer of convenience for our members," said Paul Kundert, president and CEO of UW Credit Union. "For many people, it isn’t easy to keep on top of their finances. We’re providing this tool so people can check balances and transfer funds wherever they go. We feel that this enhancement will be extremely useful to a broad range of people, especially in today’s economic climate where people are looking for additional ways to manage their money."
