5 strategies to build your performance management plan

Managing your credit union career is totally up to you.

Every leader needs to plan, monitor and review their performance constantly … and not just at your annual performance review.

These five strategies will assist you keep you focused on your goals and manage your career.

Know yourself – learn your strengths and communication style. You can complete assessment tools online, read books and participate in programs. A few fantastic resources include Myers Briggs, DISC, and Strength Finders 2.0.

Set your goals – determine your goals for your professional (and personal) life. Review the objectives for your role and then break down the goals into quarterly, monthly and weekly goals. Print these goals so you can review them constantly. Keep them in your line of sight so you can use them as decision filtering systems of how you will spend your time, attention and energy each day.

Gather evidence – you regularly receive letters from happy members, notes of appreciation, LinkedIn recommendations and feedback from team members. Create a file and keep all these documents in one central location to share with your manager at your performance review.

Be your own publicist – just like celebrities have a publicist that shares their messages with the world, you need to act as your own publicist. Plan tomorrow today by spending 15 minutes at the end of the day and make a note of one successful thing that you and /or the teach achieved today. On Friday send the five bullet points to your boss and share the successes of your week.

Get a coach – find someone you trust or hire a professional coach that can assist you achieves your objectives. Coaches will ask you targeted questions and help hold you accountable to your goals.
