Is Technology the Future of the Branch?

In a recent article by NCR Corporation they talk about “the branch’s love/hate relationship with technology” and debate the issue around technology killing branches suggesting that technology is actually the future of the bank branch.

What’s interesting about this position is that it brings to mind a recent article that I wrote for CU Insight entitled, “Technophobes” and the Teller-less eBranch Concept.”

When drawing conclusions from both of these articles, I continue to take the position that financial institutions have to evolve and continue to innovate while simultaneously understanding their specific customer needs.

I’ll reiterate that a “simplified branch experience” may not work in every market.

It is all about new opportunities for bottom-line optimization and top-line growth.  This is why it’s critical to evaluate the effectiveness of your current branch network.
