CUNA Human Resources, Training & Development (HR/TD) Council Offers CEO Succession Planning and Transition White Paper

Madison, Wis. – “In today’s rapidly changing business environment, a credit union needs to be a high performance organization to compete successfully.”

So begins Jim Cardwell’s most recent white paper written for the CUNA HR/TD Council titled, “CEO Succession Planning and Transition.” Incorporating survey results from Heidrick and Struggles and Stanford University’s Rock Center, the paper provides insight and guidance to credit union HR staff for developing a thoughtful, comprehensive, multi-dimensional, and proactive plan, including:

• · Providing a definition of succession planning
• · Sharing best practices on the succession management process
• · Outlining a succession planning process
• · Defining the roles for the board, CEO and HR with respect to this process
• · Providing insight on the importance of an effective post-selection transition

Cardwell includes the worksheets, “Assessing Your Credit Union’s Bench” and “A Development Plan Roadmap” into the paper.
