Financial Partners CU Marketing VP, Anne Legg, MBA Thesis Selected for Publication and Presentation at 2012 International Cooperative Summit in Quebec

Downey, CA – November 6, 2012 – Chosen from more than 100 entries worldwide, Anne Legg, Financial Partners Credit Union’s Vice President of Marketing, had her MBA Thesis selected for publication and presentation at the 2012 International Cooperative Summit held in Quebec, Canada, October 8-11, 2012. Legg was the only credit union representative selected to present.

Legg’s MBA thesis, titled “Creating a New Credit Union Sustainability Business Model”, explores sustainability through application of several emerging business strategies. Acknowledging that credit unions are a viable financial alternative for consumers, Legg seeks a solution for credit union sustainability by examining international credit union systems in addition to the cooperative grocery and farming industries. To achieve sustainability within the industry, Legg’s recommendations include developing a shared value business model, micro lending, and re-positioning strategies, as well as incorporating programs founded on the cooperative principles.

More than 2,800 participants from over 91 countries attended the four-day international summit that addressed the role cooperatives play in the global economic environment. Other notable speakers included former United States Secretary of State Madeline Albright and Harvard Business School leadership and innovation expert and Arbuckle Professor of Business Administration Rosabeth Moss Kanter.

This is another accomplishment of Legg’s thesis. In 2011, it took the top honor at the CUNA CFO MBA thesis competition and then shortly turned into a CUNA industry white paper.

Other credit union industry speakers included Credit Union National Association President/CEO Bill Cheney, World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) President/CEO Brian Branch, Filene Chief Finance and Strategy Officer (now Northwest Credit Union Association COO) Denise Gabel, and Currency Marketing President and Creative Director Tim McAlpine.

Legg is the past chair of the CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council. She has served on many credit union marketing committees, as well as subject matter expert for CUNA’s Center for Professional Development online marketing curriculum, and currently instructs at the CUNA Marketing Management School.
