Furman, Royce, and Tozer join NAFCU’s 2014 Congressional Caucus lineup

WASHINGTON (August 29, 2014) — The National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) just announced that Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., Ginnie Mae President Ted Tozer, and Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers Jason Furman have joined the growing list of distinguished speakers confirmed for the association’s 2014 Congressional Caucus. The Caucus will take place Sept. 9 – 12 at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Royce is a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee and chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. In February 2013, Royce introduced H.R. 688, the “Credit Union Small Business Jobs Creation Act.” The bill would lift the credit union member business lending cap from 12.25 percent to 27.5 percent of total assets, which reflects a key element of NAFCU’s five-point plan for regulatory relief. In March of this year, Royce introduced H.R. 4226, the “Credit Union Residential Loan Parity Act.” This legislation would exempt certain residential loans from credit unions’ federal statutory cap on member business lending.

Tozer was named president of Ginnie Mae in February 2010. As president, he operates a multi-billion dollar corporation. Tozer oversees Ginnie Mae’s mortgage-backed securities program and enterprise-wide risk management initiatives including capital market activity. He brings with him more than 30 years of experience in the mortgage, banking and securities industries.

Furman was confirmed by the Senate in August 2013 as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers. Prior to this role, he served as assistant to the president for economic policy and the principal deputy director of the National Economic Council. Furman is the editor of several books on economic policy, including “Path to Prosperity” and “Who Has the Cure?”

These prominent individuals join a host of renowned speakers scheduled for NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus, including National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Board Member Rick Metsger and Director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) Jennifer Shasky Calvery.

Congressional Caucus is open to all credit unions. Visit www.nafcu.org/caucus to learn more and to register.
