IBM Southeast Employees’ Federal Credit Union celebrates 45th anniversary

BOCA RATON, Fl. (September 11, 2014) — On Wednesday, September 17, 2014, Boca Raton based IBM Southeast Employees’ Federal Credit Union, one of the nation’s largest credit unions, will celebrate its 45th anniversary. Members are encouraged to stop by an IBM Southeast EFCU branch on September 17 when each branch will be offering refreshments, a $45 “refer a new member to the Credit Union” reward and a chance to win a $45 Visa® gift card.

IBM Southeast EFCU was established in 1969 as IBM Boca Raton Employees’ Federal Credit Union to serve IBM employees in South Florida. To become a Member/Owner, each person had to start a savings account with $0.25. By 1977, the Credit Union had expanded its field of membership to include IBM Employees in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Puerto Rico and the Credit Union’s name changed to IBM Southeast Employees’ Federal Credit Union.

In 1980, the Credit Union merged with IBM Atlanta Federal Credit Union and expanded its field of membership to include IBM employees in Georgia. By 2002, the Credit Union had eight branches in Georgia and Florida.

Today, IBM Southeast EFCU has 16 branches in Florida and Georgia. The Credit Union currently has $878 million in assets, more than 74,000 Members, 230 employees, and numerous Select Employee Groups.  IBM Southeast EFCU is an Equal Credit Opportunity Lender, and its Members’ shares are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).

“Our credit union’s success has demonstrated that ordinary people can come together to create a financial institution that meets the needs of their families and neighbors,” said Michael Miller, CEO of IBM Southeast EFCU. “This Anniversary Celebration is more than a time to look backward: it’s a time to envision our future and our ongoing commitment to serve all of our Members.
