Island Federal Credit Union donates $5,000 to Hope for the Warriors for every NEW Island Loan

HAUPPAUGE, NY (February 26, 2014) – Today, Island Federal Credit Union (Island) President/CEO Bret W. Sears presented a check in the amount of $5,000 to Hope For The Warriors®. Island’s donation represents the culmination of a special program in which Island donated $10 to Hope For The Warriors for every new Island loan originated from October 16 through December 31, 2013, (up to 500 loans).

”Hope For The Warriors is an incredible organization with a tremendously dedicated team that directly impacts our service members and their families in a very meaningful way,” said Island President/CEO Bret W. Sears.  “We at Island are proud to give them our support through this donation program.”

Founded in 2006, the mission of Hope For The Warriors is to enhance the quality of life for post-9/11 and combat wounded service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have been harmed in the line of duty.

”The leadership and  staff of Island Federal Credit Union have made an incredible impact on both our Long Island run and on our organization,” Tina Atherall, Hope For The Warriors® Executive Vice President said.  “Their support brings more than donations to our organization.  They have helped us to build a supportive community on Long Island for each of our military families.  We are so thankful that they are now part of the Hope family.”

This $5,000 contribution is one example of Island’s support of Hope For The Warriors. In 2013, Island was a Presenting Sponsor of the 6th Annual Long Island Run For the Warriors® held on November 10. That event, held at the Town Hall of Babylon in Lindenhurst, has grown in numbers and popularity with more than 2,500 participants last year. Through the involvement of Island staff, members and business partners, the Island “Wave” team raised more than $40,000 for Hope For The Warriors in 2013, making it the organization’s most successful event of 2013.

About Hope For The Warriors
The mission of Hope For The Warriors® is to enhance the quality of life for post-9/11 service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty. Hope For The Warriors® is dedicated to restoring a sense of self, restoring the family unit, and restoring hope for our service members and our military families.

Hope For The Warriors® is a national, nonprofit organization that supports wounded U.S. service members, their families, and families of the fallen. A group of military wives founded the organization in 2006. They stood together as they witnessed, firsthand, the effects of the war on service members and their families. Since that time, Hope For The Warriors® has grown tremendously in the span of programs offered and the number of wounded and family members assisted. While founded in North Carolina, the organization maintains offices in New York, Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Florida. Its representatives cover California, Texas, Illinois, and Wyoming, enabling us to maintain a nation-wide presence. The leadership of the organization still remains in the dedicated hands of military wives.
