Lake Michigan Credit Union launches One Pencil Project

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (August 1, 2014) — Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU) is pleased to announce the 2014 kick-off of its One Pencil Project. Designed to assist cash-strapped community schools, this initiative enters its fourth year on August 1, 2014 and extends through the end of the month. All LMCU branches will become collection sites for donated school supplies.

LMCU Community Relations Director, Matt Cook, is excited to get the 2014 One Pencil project underway. “LMCU’s One Pencil campaign is a collaborative effort with our members to assist teachers and students across Michigan. In 2013, our collection efforts reached 385 teachers from over 50 different school districts across West Michigan. This year, we hope to expand our reach across various regions to distribute even more supplies. Donation bins will be set up at each branch to collect supplies donated by our members. Members can also make monetary donations. All donations will make a difference and help us in our efforts to support the teachers and students in this state.”

Teachers are encouraged to make their needs known to LMCU, and can request classroom supplies via the One Pencil Project, through the LMCU website, lmcu.org/onepencil.

Cash donations gratefully accepted, as well as any of the following supplies:

• Crayons, regular and large size

• Color marker pens

• Highlighters

• Glue sticks and glue bottles

• Packaged lined notebook paper

• Packaged color construction paper

• Packaged pens

• Packaged pencils

Donated school supplies can be dropped off at any LMCU branch location.
