March of Dimes SECU teams raise over $55,000 for babies!

Raleigh, NC (June 16, 2014) — On a recent sunny Saturday morning, more than 200 State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) staff and family members laced up their sneakers for a 3-mile walk in support of the Triangle area’s March of Dimes® March for Babies® Walk held in Morrisville, N.C.  Crossing the finish line marked the successful finale of this year’s fundraising efforts among local Credit Union branches and operations teams, raising over $55,000 to help promote the March of Dimes’ fight against premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality.  SECU teams from around the State also participated in various regional March for Babies events, adding several thousand dollars more to the Credit Union’s cumulative support of March of Dimes in 2014.

“State Employees’ Credit Union staff members have been longtime supporters of the March for Babies, and we are continually amazed with their fundraising success,” stated Tyler Salisbury, Chair of the Eastern Carolina Division of March of Dimes.  “We are thrilled to have such a committed partner as State Employees’ Credit Union, a true champion for babies.”

The Credit Union’s Durham-Ben Franklin Boulevard branch employees led the charge in fundraising, bringing in over $6,000 in donations collectively.  Phadjer Green-Alston has served as the branch team captain for the last three years and noted, “As a mother, I feel March of Dimes is a special charity, and I appreciate that infants’ lives are being saved through their efforts.  Our branch employees show their ongoing support through year-long fundraisers and annual participation in the walks.  Not only is this a great cause, but the Saturday March helps us stay active and healthy while helping the babies!”
