Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) named Outstanding Credit Union of 2014 by Michigan Credit Union League

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI (December 22, 2014) In recognition of service to its members and the community, Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) has been named Outstanding Credit Union for 2015 by the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL). The credit union was cited for its strong financial growth, member and employee satisfaction, and community financial literacy programs among other criteria for those credit unions with assets of $400 million and above.

“It is an honor to be recognized by our peers who know that a credit union’s focus is truly different from other financial institutions,” Peter Gates, MSGCU President and CEO, said. “Everybody on the MSGCU team takes the credit union philosophy ‘People Helping People’ to heart.”

MSGCU’s outstanding year  includes:

  • 50 percent increase in loan growth
  • 10 percent increase in asset growth
  • 12 percent increase in membership

Programs of note include:

  • Commissioned consumer research to gauge the level of financial literacy of Metro Detroit 
  • Created popular financial literacy programs for employees and community outreach
  • Innovative loans for teachers, first responders and flood restoration
  • Grant program for educators
  • Scholarships to assist high school seniors, education students and future first responders
