Secrets to Stretching the College Dollar: Tropical financial credit union to host lunch & learns for students and their parents

MIRAMAR, FL (April 11, 2014) – It’s well reported that the cost of a college education is rising each year, which means many students need to find creative ways to budget while earning their degree.

During the months of April and May, Tropical Financial Credit Union will host a series of lunch and learn events to help college-bound teenagers and their parents identify unforeseen costs of an education, and offer up proven tips for saving money on campus.  The program, entitled Money Matters: Beyond Tuition, will be hosted by 25-year old Alysha Klein who will share her best budget secrets learned while studying at Florida Atlantic University. Klein currently leads a program at Tropical Financial called Young & Free Florida designed to communicate with the 18-25 year old crowd on personal finance issues.

“When it comes to paying for college, everyone knows about the big expenses like tuition and housing, but there are dozens of other fees students might encounter that they may not have thought about,” said Klein, from Coral Springs. “We’re going to help students create a realistic financial plan and show them different tricks they can use to make their dollar go further. I’m going to share personal money tips that helped me through college as well as those I’ve picked up from other cash-strapped students around the country.”

The free program will be held at various Tropical Financial branches in the tri-county area from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. College-bound teenagers and their parents are invited to attend, but they must pre-register at www.YoungFreeFlorida.com/LunchLearn.
