SECU members sponsor the 2014 Governor’s Awards for Excellence

RALEIGH, NC (November 25, 2014) —  At an awards ceremony held recently at the North Carolina Museum of History, 38 individuals were honored with the highest privilege that can be bestowed upon a State employee – the Governor’s Awards for Excellence.  Hosted by the Office of State Human Resources and sponsored by the member-funded SECU Foundation, the event is part of Excellence in State Government Week, acknowledging employees for noteworthy service to the State and people of North Carolina.  Nominated by their peers, award recipients were presented with the accolades for outstanding accomplishments and dedicated service beyond the scope of their normal duties.  State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) representatives were on hand, including SECU Foundation Executive Director Mark Twisdale, who welcomed guests to the ceremony.

“I am constantly amazed at the level of dedication I see from State Government employees,” said Governor Pat McCrory.  “The Governor’s Awards for Excellence give us the opportunity to celebrate the tremendous value they bring to our State and its citizens.  It is my pleasure to honor these individuals and agencies that help make North Carolina such a great place to live.”

The 2014 Governor’s Awards for Excellence winners were presented Awards in the categories of Human Relations, Efficiency and Innovations, Outstanding State Government Service, Public Service and Heroism.  Winners include the following individuals and teams:

Cedar Island Ferry Crew – Steven Goodwin, G.S. Salter, W.D. Smith, R.K. Willis, D.P. Styron, C.G. Gilliken and J.P. Morris (Department of Transportation); Correction Enterprises Service Awards Team – Karen Brown, Penny Evans and Phil Rowe (Department of Public Safety); Greg Cox (Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services); Mike Edwards (Department of Insurance); Joe Finley (Department of Health and Human Services); Forsyth County Workforce Center Veterans’ Service Unit – Larry Calloway, David Monteleone, Steven Miller and James McRavion (Department of Commerce); Gasoline Volatility Standards Revision Team – Tony Pendola, Sheila Holman and Sushma Masemore (Department of Environment and Natural Resources); David Landrum (University of North Carolina at Charlotte); Larry Mitchell (Department of Health and Human Services); Wayne Peedin (Department of Administration); Amy Schlag (University of North Carolina at Wilmington); Jennifer Shrewsbury (Department of Health and Human Services); Team Manhunt – Alcohol Law Enforcement Agents Antwan Happoldt and Michael Bradshaw, State Highway Patrol Troopers (SHP) Joshua Shuffler, Kyle Robinson, Aaron Johnson, Daniel Wakefield, Russell McGee, and Carroll Hallyburton, SHP Sgt. Mark Cline, SHP Lt. Doug Amos, and SBI Agents Kevin Coggins and Andy Cline (Department of Public Safety); and James Williams (University of North Carolina at Charlotte).
