Seven candidates from Iowa’s First Congressional District shared stage in unique bi-partisan event

DES MOINES, IA (February 21, 2014) — The Iowa Credit Union League (ICUL) held a unique bi-partisan congressional candidate forum on Tuesday, February 18, in Des Moines. Hosted by Dean Borg, one of Iowa’s most respected journalists, seven of the nine announced candidates for the First Congressional District answered questions about the American economy, health care, small business lending and consumer security.

The entire event was streamed live and can be found here: www.bit.ly/1oRH6rv.

All nine candidates currently in the race were invited. In attendance were the following seven candidates:

  • Gail      Boliver (R-Marshalltown)
  • Rep.      Walt Rogers (R-Cedar Falls)
  • Swati      Dandekar (D-Cedar Rapids)
  • Rep.      Anesa Kajtazovic (D-Waterloo)
  • Rep.      Pat Murphy (D-Dubuque)
  • Dave      O’Brien (D-Cedar Rapids)
  • Monica      Vernon (D-Cedar Rapids)

“The event was really about providing our credit union members and advocates an opportunity to connect with legislators and learn first-hand the people who make our public policy,” said Jon Murphy, Director of Government Affairs for ICUL.

ICUL works on behalf of more than one million Iowa credit union members. In the First Congressional District alone, there are more than 319,000 credit union members. ICUL, in addition to its financial literacy efforts, works to offer its members educational opportunities on issues of public importance.

“Our members, regardless of political party, want to know where the candidates stand on the issues, “said Murphy. “It was our honor to work with these seven candidates and give credit union members, and all Iowans, a chance to hear their solutions to the problems facing America.”
