Travis Credit Union selected as Atwater 4th of July Parade Grand Marshal!

VACAVILLE, CA (July 3, 2015) — Andrea Baptie, Branch Manager of Travis Credit Union in Atwater, shared her delight at the selection of her company as Grand Marshal of this year’s upcoming Atwater 4th of July Parade during an interview with the Times.

When asked how the choice came about, Baptie said, “I’ve worked for Travis Credit Union for 24 years.  I’m on the Board for the Atwater 4th of July Committee, so the members know the credit union’s involvement in the community.  We, at the credit union, exist to create value for the community, and it’s important for us to support our credit union members, as well as all community members.  Our motto is people helping people, and we live our mission.  Travis Credit Union’s mission statement is building lifelong relationships with our members to help them achieve their financial goals.  We feel the way to do that is be involved with our members and support what’s going on in the community that’s positive.”

She added, “Locally, we’ve adopted a plane at Castle Air Museum and have been supporting that plane by cleaning it, pulling weeds around it, and making sure it’s presentable for the open cockpit events.  We’re also heavily involved in the Atwater Relay for Life.  We have a team each year at that event, and there are a couple of us who also serve on that committee and have for several years.”

When asked how she is involved in the Parade specifically, Baptie said, “I’m currently the Media Chairperson for the Atwater 4th of July Committee.  With Stacey Leal, a teacher for the Merced City School District, I am co-Chair of the Parade, and I’m also the Secretary of the Board.”

Describing her background and why the Parade is meaningful to her, she said, “I wasn’t actually born in Atwater.  I was born in Montana, but my father was stationed here in 1975, right before I started kindergarten.  I started attending the Parade when I was 5-years-old.  I grew up with the Parade.  The 4th of July has always been part of my life.  The Atwater 4th of July is an event that’s been going on for about 60 years; it’s a reunion.  It’s very important to me that this tradition continues. I mentioned to the Atwater 4th of July Committee that if they ever needed any help, to let me know.  It was something close to my heart, and I wanted to be sure future generations would have it, so I knew that when they told me they needed help, I needed to jump in.”

When asked if she will ride in the Parade this year, Baptie said, “I’m still contemplating whether to ride in the Parade since I am on the Atwater 4th of July Committee and have jobs to do that day, but the girls in the Atwater branch of Travis Credit Union deserve the recognition and will definitely be there.”

She said, enthusiastically, “We are exploring what to do to decorate the track to support the theme of Super Heroes the event is going to have.  The Parade is really all about the kids, and the kids should have a lot of fun with their Parade entries, coming up with different Super Hero ideas.  We’re still in the planning stages for our float, but we know we’re going to have our Travis T-bird, our mascot, in a costume.  He’ll be there to greet the kids along the Parade route.”
