You are the CEO of your branch

As I’ve moved into the new role as Branch Manager with Servus Credit Union, one of the best pieces of advice I received was from my new District Manager.

“You are the CEO of your Branch.”

The responsibility for branch managers to develop our people, provide a first class member experience, get entrenched in our communities, and produce financial results has never been greater.  I appreciate and value the fact that I have been given the autonomy to work with my leadership team and staff to create an environment that will grow our team and branch in each of those areas.

We want to be intentional in everything we do.  As we’ve approached our fiscal year end on October 31st, my leadership team and I have focused a lot about what the 2014-2015 year will look like for the Stony Plain branch.  Our focus areas at a high level will be that of our members, our staff, and our community.  We’ve started to build a plan on how we plan to develop, engage, and reward in each of those categories.

In the next week, we’ll take the time to also engage our staff, as well as our partners in business banking and wealth, in the conversation.  This will assist us in finalizing our goals in each of these categories, but will also assist us in creating tactical items on how we plan to accomplish these goals.  Success will be measured against our financial results, our employee engagement, and the feedback we receive from our members and community on how we are doing.

Regardless of what type of leadership position you have within your credit union, as you build out your plan for the year, be sure to involve your staff and business partners to in a collaborative environment.  Their contribution will provide increased engagement as you look to execute the vision you created together.
