3 lessons in success from the 2018 Masters Tournament

As the 2018 Masters Tournament got underway yesterday, it got me thinking about what it takes to be successful on the golf course, and how you can apply it to having success in your life and at your credit union. Here are three lessons in success from Thursday at The Masters.

Learn from your mistakes: Yesterday afternoon, Sergio Garcia hit 5 balls in the water on the 15th hole. On his 12th stroke, he changed his landing spot and finally kept one dry. Nailing the putt, he finished the hole with a 13. While not exactly a “Tin Cup” moment, it did provide the opportunity to learn. If something isn’t working, try it a different way. Some things work and some things just do not.

You might have to play hurt: On Wednesday, Tony Finau made a hole-in-one during the pre-tournament Par 3 Contest. Like anyone of us would, he celebrated. Unfortunately, during that celebration he dislocated his left ankle. He quickly “relocated” his ankle and seemed to walk it off. Although he seemed to be favoring the ankle a little on Thursday, he was able to compete and finished in a tie for second after the first round. The lesson here? If you want to reach your goals, sometimes you’ll have to overcome a little adversity.

Enjoy the ride: Even though he won The Masters six times in his career, golf legend Jack Nicklaus said on Wednesday that his favorite moment at Augusta National was seeing his Grandson, GT hit a hole-in-one on the final hole of the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday.

All the success in the world won’t mean a whole lot if you don’t enjoy the ride.
