3 ways to put your career on the right path

Are you at a stage in your career where you feel that things are just not progressing the way you’d like them to? Well it’s your journey and it’s time for you to take the reins. Here are three ways you can get your career back on track…

Seek feedback: If you feel that your career is stalling out, it’s time to find out why. Talk to your bosses and trusted coworkers. Ask them what they think your strengths are and what areas you need to work on. Keep in mind that you’re coming to them for help, so don’t get your feelings hurt if they tell you a few things that you don’t want to hear. Let the information marinate for a while and then…

Set goals: There are things you need to work on. Now get to work. Spend more time on the areas that you’re not as strong in and start taking steps to improve. Don’t set goals that will be impossible to obtain. If you’re not currently supervising other employees, you probably won’t be CEO by this time next year. Get better at what you do and then use that increased performance to take your career to the next level. And don’t forget to…

Stay in touch: Find a mentor or someone who will be honest with you when you need them to be. Tell them about your goals and what you want to accomplish in the next year. Use that person as a sounding board that you can bounce ideas off of. Having a trusted colleague or friend in your corner is helpful when you need someone to tell you whether or not you’re staying on the right track.
