3 ways to save on your tailgate party this football season
It’s finally upon us. College football is back tonight! If you’re more a fan of the pro game, don’t fret, the NFL season kicks off next week. One of my favorite things about football season is the food and the fraternization. If you’re planning on a few trips to tailgate at the stadium or just hosting friends at home, it can be tough to stay on budget. Here are three ways you can save while throwing awesome football-themed parties this season…
Don’t worry about the food so much: It’s fun to have a nice spread, but the most fun part of tailgating, is the people. If you can’t really afford to smoke BBQ every weekend, that’s okay. I guarantee, with a little cold beer, some chips and dip and some burgers or dogs, nobody will care that you don’t have the fanciest set-up on campus.
Don’t even worry about the beer so much: When you’re reuniting with your old college buddies one Saturday a year, you may feel the need to buy everyone a round of that new micro-brew that you just discovered. But when it comes to alcohol at your tailgate, there are really only a couple of rules. Make sure it’s cold and make sure you don’t run out. Some simple, light beers will always do.
Make sure it’s a killer party: Parties are always more fun when your favorite people show up. Make sure you’re texting your invites a couple weeks in advance and follow-up with everyone several days before. Task each guest with bringing something simple like a dessert, side, or beverages, and handle the grill yourself. This way you won’t break the bank and the spread will still be spectacular.
Have fun and save money. Best of luck to your teams this season!
