4 things to do at work before you leave for vacation

Once our vacations are booked it can be hard to concentrate on much else. How are we supposed to finish our work when there’s sun and sand right around the corner? Before you shut down your computer and leave work for your big trip, cross these four things off your list to ensure you’re leaving on a high note.

Touch base

Stay in constant communication with your colleagues before hitting the road. Have a solid plan in place for how things will run without you there. Are there tasks you need to have a coworker cover for while you are away? Having everything planned out will ensure no one will be stressed when you’re gone. Even if you have to work a little extra before you leave, your colleagues will appreciate you leaving with everything in a good spot.

Tidy up

There’s nothing like coming back to work after a nice vacation and finding your workspace clean and orderly. It’s hard enough returning to the office after a vacation, without being greeted by disorganization and a mess. So, before you hit the road, take a minute to organize your work area. Throw away any unnecessary items and think ahead to how you’ll want your desk to look when you start back after your trip.

Be agreeable

Before you go, avoid any confrontations. When you head out for your much-needed time off, you want to leave knowing everyone at work is content. This will help you have a stress-free and blissful trip without worrying about who you upset or aggravated before you left.

Give yourself room

If you are meant to be away for an entire week, consider coming home a day earlier to give yourself some room to regroup before heading back to work. It can be hard to jump right back into a work mindset after relaxing by the pool without a worry in the world. So, reserve a day when you return home for unpacking and relaxing so you can return to the office without feeling overwhelmed.
