The more positive your staff is, the more productive they will be. One way to increase positivity in your office is to improve your work environment. If your office environment needs some work, here are a few ideas to make it more awesome.
Increase happiness: An awesome work environment doesn’t include a lot of negativity. As a leader, find ways you can make your team happier every day. Start each day with a ‘hello’ and a smile to everyone you come across in the morning. Happiness is contagious. When you start off on the right foot, you increase the chances that everyone else will start their mornings in a positive place, and hopefully that will carry on throughout the day.
Fix your break room: If your break room is 4 walls and a Coke machine, it’s time to kick it up a notch. Make sure you provide your employees with plenty of options for food and snacks, a fully-stocked coffee station, and a comfortable place to relax and take a load off for a few minutes. If your employees don’t feel like they’re actually taking a break from work, then your break room isn’t doing its job.
Be appreciative: A place where your staff feels appreciated is a place where they’ll feel good about spending a third of their life. We all need to feel comfortable where we are, and while we may not always receive praise at work, getting a ‘thank you’ every now and then can really lift employee spirits.
Have more fun: Not all people agree on what “fun” is. The definition I’m using in this situation, is any activity or event that allows your team to let their guard down, enjoy themselves, and get to know their fellow employees better. Having “fun” will give your team a chance to bond and feel more connected to their colleagues. And that’s awesome.
