BECU

“People helping people” is the credit union philosophy, and BECU took that motto to heart with its marketing. The “Closing for Good” event saw BECU close its doors for a day and instead send its employees to volunteer at local high schools and talk to students about financial education. BECU also created the “Members Make It Happen” campaign, which highlighted not only the benefits of membership but what it means to be a member. As much as we wouldn’t like to admit it, we all make mistakes. Listerhill Credit Union owned up to its mistake in a creative way, which helped it land on this list. When debit cards were printed incorrectly, rather than the typical apology, this CU sent its members a new card and a pair of scissors to help dispose of the old one. Unique? Yes. Effective? Absolutely. Listerhill not only puts members first when it comes to credit card safety but also in its marketing, as evidenced by its business services packet that highlights members and their stories.
