I love to hear about what makes someone a leader, versus a boss. A few years ago, a former leader of mine shared with me the five habits she lives by to lead her team. Once I heard them, I could attest that she walked the talk. I made a commitment to myself to apply those traits as I lead my team of compliance professionals at a large bank.

Now, instead of being responsible for the compliance management system at a bank, I am responsible for providing compliance services to credit unions, specifically compliance audits. I still lead a team, and I still apply those habits, but now I think about how I can apply those habits towards ensuring I am the best compliance partner for the credit unions we serve.
