MARSHFIELD, WI (July 6, 2026) |
Marshfield Medical Center Credit Union is collecting new children’s books to help stock a free book vending machine planned for the Pediatric Urgent Care and Emergency waiting area at Marshfield Children’s Hospital.
The credit union’s goal is to collect 100 new books by July 31. The final count will be celebrated during MMCCU’s I Love My Credit Union event on July 31, and community members are encouraged to attend, bring a new children’s book and help support the effort.
The book vending machine will give children visiting the hospital the opportunity to choose a free book to take home. Children will receive a token to use in the machine, allowing them to select a book during their visit.
MMCCU is accepting donations of new hardcover and paperback books for children ages 18 months through 12 years. Used books will not be accepted.
“I have seen what a gentle and kind distraction a story book or literary piece can offer during times of trauma or tragedy. Sometimes these characters are the only friend these children feel safe to turn to for hope or comfort,” said Tiffany Schara, business development specialist at Marshfield Medical Center Credit Union.
The initiative supports childhood literacy while helping create a more positive experience for children and families in a medical setting.
“We invited everyone to celebrate our book collection on July 31 at the credit union, where we will have a food truck, face painting, and other fun activities,” Schara added.
Community members may drop off new children’s books at Marshfield Medical Center Credit Union, 302 W. Upham St. in Marshfield. Donations also may be brought to the I Love My Credit Union event on July 31.
