MELBOURNE, FL (July 20, 2026) |
As part of its continued commitment to preserving Florida’s coastlines and habitats through its Partners in Purpose program, Space Coast Credit Union (SCCU) and East Coast Zoological Foundation (EZCF) partnered on Tuesday, June 16, to support ECZF’s Restore Our Shores initiative. Volunteers helped maintain previously placed oyster beds, supporting ongoing efforts to improve water quality and strengthen the resilience of the Indian River Lagoon.
Previously, SCCU presented a $35,000 donation to support East Coast Zoological Foundation in support of its initiatives to protect Florida's ecosystems through coastal restoration, wildlife protection and habitat conservation and its community events.
“At SCCU, supporting our communities also means doing what we can to preserve our coastlines and waterways—and we take that responsibility seriously,” said Joelle Hahn, SVP of Marketing at Space Coast Credit Union and leader of the Partners in Purpose program. “Partnering with the East Coast Zoological Foundation helps us turn that commitment into real, lasting impact.”
During the volunteer event, SCCU Team Members worked alongside ECZF staff to maintain and strengthen established oyster beds by leveling oyster shell beds and moving coquina rocks to reinforce developing reef structures. These efforts support habitat restoration, shoreline protection and improved ecosystem health throughout the Indian River Lagoon, where a single oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water each day, making oyster reefs a vital component of water quality restoration.
The East Coast Zoological Foundation is one of SCCU’s nonprofit partners under its Partners in Purpose program that aligns volunteerism, corporate giving and nonprofit partnerships to create lasting community impact. Through this partnership, SCCU supports initiatives that protect Florida’s ecosystems and strengthen the communities it serves.
