Tropical Financial Credit Union (TFCU) is investing in the next generation of South Florida leaders by awarding $10,000 in scholarships through its 2026 Scholarship Program. This year's awards recognize three outstanding individuals whose academic success, leadership and dedication to serving their communities set them apart. The scholarships include one $5,000 grand prize scholarship and two $2,500 scholarships, including one designated for a non-traditional student.
For more than a decade, Tropical Financial Credit Union has supported local students as they pursue higher education. The annual scholarship program helps ease the financial burden of tuition while celebrating students who have excelled in the classroom and have a clear vision for their future.
The 2026 scholarship recipients are:
- Kaelynn Charles, of Sunrise, is the recipient of TFCU's $5,000 scholarship. She graduated from College Academy at Broward College and will attend Florida International University this fall, where she plans to major in counseling psychology. Kaelynn volunteers as a theater usher for the City of Sunrise and serves as a vocalist at her local church each Sunday. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and has earned certifications in leadership and psychological first aid.
- Brianna Lucente, of Davie, is one of two recipients of TFCU's $2,500 scholarship. She graduated from Western High School and will attend the University of Florida this fall. Brianna ranked in the top 5% of her class and received the 2025 College Board National Recognition Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Outside the classroom, she competes in track and cross country and volunteers at Bit-By-Bit Therapeutic Horse Riding Center.
- Marguencie Franck-Bernard, of Miramar, is the recipient of TFCU's $2,500 non-traditional student scholarship. She is currently pursuing an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN/RN) at Florida Academy of Nursing while teaching biology, marine science and AICE Marine Science at Everglades High School. In addition to the classroom, she serves as Broward Schools' T.I.E.R. Liaison, mentoring newly hired teachers; is the F.F.E.A. Advisor, helping guide future educators; and coordinates the ReadSquad program, reflecting her passion for education and literacy.

To be considered, applicants submitted a personal statement describing their educational and career aspirations and explaining how Tropical Financial has helped—or could help—them achieve their financial goals. Scholarship recipients were selected based on their academic performance, community involvement, charitable service and participation in extracurricular activities.
