NAFCU’s 2014 Technology and Security Conference kicks off in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV (February 11, 2014) - Credit unions from across the country are gathering today to kick off the National Association of Federal Credit Unions’ (NAFCU) 2014 Technology and Security Conference, where attendees will learn about trends in cybercrime, how to respond to data security threats and more. The conference runs through Thursday, Feb. 13, at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino and is open to NAFCU members and nonmembers.

“This conference couldn’t have come at a more opportune time given the ongoing uncertainty in the wake of the massive data breach at Target and others affecting Neiman Marcus, Michaels Stores and other large retailers,” said Dan Berger, NAFCU’s president and CEO. “Credit union attendees will acquire the information they need to help their institutions anticipate changes on the evolving technological landscape and protect their bottom lines.”

Cybersecurity expert John Sileo will deliver the conference’s feature presentation, “Personal Cybersecurity? What You Absolutely, Positively Need to Know.” Attendees will learn the seven critical areas of cybersecurity to protect credit unions and their members against data breaches.

Conference attendees will also get to hear from other leading industry speakers, including NAFCU Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt; Valley Federal Credit Union Chief Lending and Marketing Officer Darla Card; Samaha & Associates Managing Consultant Adam Denbo; Vantiv Vice President of Corporate Marketing Lorena Harris; FedChoice Federal Credit Union Risk Manager Michael Martin; The Business Performance Innovation Network Executive Program Director Dave Murray; CliftonLarsonAllen LLP Principal of Information Security Randall Romes; Samaha & Associates President and CEO Sabeh Samaha; Paladin fs, LLC President Aaron Silva; Tinker Federal Credit Union Executive Vice President, Chief Risk Officer Patrick Yager; and SAS Institute Technical Consultant Twanda Baker.

The conference will help credit unions learn about core processor contracting, maintenance and managing conversions; provide top solutions to help meet a credit union’s IT and security needs; discuss the top 10 payment trends to watch for this year; and review the current efforts for legislation on third-party data breaches.
