NASCUS announces new chair

ARLINGTON, VA (August 25, 2014) -- The National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS) welcomed Stephen S. Pleger, senior deputy commissioner for the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance (DBF), as its Board chair today, and expressed appreciation for the hard work and contributions of former NASCUS Board Chair Mike Wettrich.

Pleger will preside over the NASCUS Annual Meeting on Sept. 10 and activities during the NASCUS State System Summit in Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 10-12.

“Steve has been an integral part of NASCUS and the NASCUS Board, and we are excited about the future of NASCUS with him at the organization’s helm,” Fortney said.

Pleger is senior deputy commissioner for the Georgia DBF—a position he was appointed to on May 1, 2010. His areas of responsibility include administration and oversight of the department; development of policies and regulations; financial institution supervision; consultation with officers, directors, and representatives of financial institutions; and liaison to the governor, legislature, other government agencies (state and federal), and various trade groups.

Wettrich, a long-time member of NASCUS and a Board member since 2011 who served as secretary/treasurer and chair-elect prior to his role as Board chairman will be missed, Fortney said. His resignation from the NASCUS Board comes as he leaves his post as chief examiner and interim deputy superintendent for credit unions at the Ohio Division of Financial Institutions in order to assume his new role as CEO of Education First CU. His first day at the Westerville, Ohio-based credit union will be Monday, Aug. 25.

“As a long-time active member of NASCUS and most recently Board chair, Mike has brought so much to the Association,” said NASCUS President and CEO Mary Martha Fortney. “We appreciate his service to the state system and to NASCUS and look forward to continuing our relationship with him as a state credit union CEO.”
