Credit union joins the fight against cancer

GLENDALE, AZ (April 15, 2015) -- Credit Union West employees have formed a team to participate in the local American Cancer Society Relay For Life at Valley Vista High School May 2-3. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.

“We’re delighted so many of our employees have chosen to participate in Relay For Life of Surprise,” said the credit union’s VP, Chief Information Officer, Scott Grundy. “Our staff has always been dedicated to support causes that affect our communities and this is no different. No one is left untouched by cancer.”

The community event involves teams of people camping out, sharing their stories of battling cancer and remembering those lost to the disease. They take turns walking, jogging, or running around the school’s track as they celebrate, remember and hope. People who are not registered on a team are invited to come out and enjoy the festivities. Teams sell food, desserts and offer an array of activities for the community to take part in.

Relay For Life of Surprise will take place from 4:00 p.m. Friday night to 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning, capping months of local fundraising in an effort to fight cancer and raise awareness. The credit union staff has arranged fundraisers in their branches, internally as well as community events, prior to the event and has raised over $10,000 to date.
