As part of their commitment to the community, Connecticut’s Credit Unions recently donated $10,000 to the Connecticut Food Bank. Credit union representatives visited the CT Food Bank facilities to learn more about the impact their operations have on communities in the state.
“It is truly inspiring to see the effort the Connecticut Food Bank puts in to support people in need here in Connecticut,” said David Hinchey, executive director for the Connecticut Credit Union Charitable Foundation. “Credit unions operate on the philosophy of people helping people, so it is an honor to support the food bank and their mission toward a hunger free Connecticut.”
Founded in 1982 in New Haven, the Connecticut Food Bank partners with food retailers, growers, donors and volunteers to source food and distribute it through a network of community-based programs, including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, residential programs and day programs that serve adults and children, as well through our Mobile Pantry, GROW Truck and Kids’ BackPack programs.
The Connecticut Food Bank provides food to hungry adults and children in six Connecticut counties: Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London and Windham. More than 300,000 people in our service area are food insecure; nearly 100,000 children struggle with hunger.
