Summit Credit Union fuels young adults pursuing higher education

Local member-owned lender to award three $1,500 scholarships

Summit Credit Union is now accepting applications for its annual Board of Directors Scholarships, which reward members who are high school seniors or currently enrolled in college. Each year, the Board of Directors Scholarships awards three $1,500 continuing education grants to help its young adult members pursue higher education and enrich their lives for years to come.

“At Summit, we believe in the power of education to fuel a richer life for anyone who wants to learn,” said Summit CEO & President Kim Sponem. “We give scholarships to empower our younger members to go after the lives they imagine. It’s our way of showing we really believe in students, and we’re here to support them.”

Applications must be submitted to Summit Credit Union via postal mail by Wednesday, Feb. 28. External credit union professionals will review applications throughout the month of March. All applicants will be notified of their submission status by April 28, 2017, with winners being announced at Summit’s annual member celebration, Summit Fest, in May. To be eligible for consideration, students must be members of Summit Credit Union as of Jan. 1, 2018, through an individual or joint account and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Summit supports area youth through a variety of other initiatives including their three in-school branches at Madison East, Memorial and La Follette high schools.

Over the past two years, Summit has given nearly $40,000 in scholarships to students throughout Madison and Milwaukee. For more information about the Board of Directors Scholarships and to download an application, visit https://www.summitcreditunion.com/about/giving-back/scholarships.
