Low-income students receive over $20k in school supplies through Security Service Federal Credit Union’s Pack a Backpack campaign

Low-income students throughout cities in Texas, Colorado and Utah received much-needed school supplies through Security Service Federal Credit Union’s (SSFCU) Pack A Backpack campaign. The month-long school supply drive held in July resulted in Security Service donating $20,787 to the Salvation Army to purchase school supplies for students in need. Additionally, backpacks and school supplies were collected in Security Service branches.

“Security Service Federal Credit Union is one of the nation’s leading credit unions because we know that we are only as strong as our community,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “That is why we take every opportunity to lift up those we serve. This is especially true when we see an opportunity to help equip our youngest community members with the means for success. Efforts like our Pack A Backpack campaign provide valuable resources to our community, and they also unite our staff in service, reminding us in a very tangible way of who we are as an organization and what we value.”

Due to the rising cost of school supplies, statistics show one out of every four families in the United States cannot afford them. Last year, teachers spent an average of nearly $600 of their own money to help students with the supplies they needed to succeed in school.
