Frontwave Credit Union celebrates first female Marine graduates from MCRD San Diego

Frontwave Credit Union is proud to welcome the first-ever platoon of female Marines graduating from Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego to the Frontwave family.

The 53 new Marines, part of Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, graduated from boot camp at MCRD San Diego on Thursday, May 6, 2021. For 13 grueling weeks, they trained alongside their 344 male counterparts in the first integrated company at MCRD San Diego.

Founded in 1952 as Camp Pendleton Federal Credit Union, Frontwave has a long history of serving Marines in Southern California and across the nation. For the last 25 years, Frontwave has managed the direct deposit program for all recruits at MCRD San Diego. Frontwave also provides financial education to these recruits during boot camp, and offers continuing education and planning advice throughout their lives.

“This is a historic moment for the U.S. Marine Corps, and we’re proud to be a part of it here at Frontwave,” said Bill Birnie, President/CEO of Frontwave Credit Union, and Retired USMC Sergeant Major. “We congratulate these new Marines on their accomplishment, and thank them for their service. We look forward to helping them achieve their financial goals while they serve in the Marine Corps and beyond.”
