Abound donates $5,000 to Hardin County Schools to support financial education

Abound Credit Union, which already offers financial education to all fifth graders in Hardin County’s 13 elementary schools, strengthened its support with a $5,000 donation to Hardin County Schools (HCS). These funds will assist middle school students as they transition from elementary school.

“We plan to use Abound’s generous donation to help promote and sponsor community events led by our students," Bluegrass Middle School teacher Caleb Queen said. "The events provide opportunities to present to their families and community partners what they have learned about the foundations of financial literacy. We believe if we teach this program to our students and their families, our communities will be the direct beneficiaries of knowing how to save, spend and invest responsibly in the future.”

“We’re proud to expand our partnership with Abound and build on the success our teachers have had sharing financial education and responsible money management topics with their 5th grade students,” said Terrie Morgan, Superintendent of HCS. “Instilling strong financial values now can benefit our students and their families for life. This is especially true for our middle school students as they begin to explore career pathways and plan for their futures.”

Abound’s Financial Education Program leverages interactive and game-based learning to immerse elementary and middle school students in real-life financial scenarios that focus on skill building and responsible decision making. The program concentrates on both financial concepts and social-emotional learning skills that build toward better financial health. Specific lessons include: Financial Decision Making, Spending and Saving, Income and Careers, Credit and Borrowing and Building Wealth.

“We’re so pleased to support Hardin County Schools by providing the tools and resources needed to build financial knowledge and capability as students grow” said Ray Springsteen, President, Abound Credit Union. “Empowering students to be smart financial decision makers early in their cognitive development can prove life changing as they enter adulthood.”

In addition to the financial education and training provided for youth, Abound Credit Union offers free online learning tools and resources for adults of all ages at www.aboundcu.com.
