LAFCU is partnering with a planetarium, a family science museum and a library to explore the wondrous intersection of space and science for its June reading event for Michigan kids, Wednesday, June 30, 7 p.m.
LAFCU Listen & Learn Space & Science is a free, virtual, live event designed to encourage children up to age 12 to read through fun, interesting and informative ways.
Budding young astronauts, star-catchers, space-travelers and others will virtually visit Abrams Planetarium, at Michigan State University, to learn about the summer sky in Michigan. Impression 5 Science Center, a family museum in Lansing, will present a science demonstration about space travel and the effects of space’s atmosphere.
As always, a book will be the Listen & Learn superstar. The award-winning children’s book “Rocket Says Look Up!” by Nathan Bryon and Dapo Adeola will be read by Erin Faivor, programming librarian at Briggs District Library, DeWitt.
There will also be a drawing to give away three $20 eGift cards for a bookstore.
“Reading encourages kids to dream big,” said Kelli Ellsworth Etchison, LAFCU chief marketing officer and chief diversity officer. “And this is centerstage in LAFCU Listen & Learn Space & Science. Enhancing critical reading and learning skills is important to the future success of our communities and supports the LAFCU philosophy, ‘LAFCU, Your Credit Union for Life.’”
Registration for the virtual LAFCU Listen & Learn event is at www.LAFCU.com/read. Using a provided web link, registrants can view the event on computers, tablets, smartphones and smart TVs. No additional software is required.
The Michigan credit union created the LAFCU Listen & Learn Program in response to the pandemic to provide a new option for a fun way for kids to learn, listen, read and interact. In addition to live events, the program also offers ongoing virtual readings of children’s books by phone, 517.622.6789, and YouTube videos, http://bit.ly/LAFCU-L-L.
