New CUSO solves system-wide security challenges for credit unions

Qu-Secure provides new, enterprise-grade security model to comprehensively protect credit union technology, assets and members; Qu-Secure to debut at Southeast Credit Union Conference & Expo,
host live-hacking demo to illustrate capabilities

121 (“One to One”) Financial Credit Union and Acreto, a technology company specializing in virtual security, announce today the launch of a new credit union service organization (CUSO) named Qu-Secure. Created by credit unions, for credit unions, Qu-Secure delivers a new security model that provides a system-wide, cloud-based technology solution that reduces complexity, costs and infrastructure needs.

Qu-Secure will debut during the Southeast Credit Union Conference & Expo (SCUCE) on June 16-17 at exhibitor booth 606, during which the Qu-Secure team will conduct ongoing live demos hacking into real websites and then fixing the issues using its proprietary technology.

“Traditional security solutions of the past have grown increasingly ineffective for the environment in which we operate today,” said Paul Blackstone, chief operating officer for 121 Financial Credit Union. “For some time now, our industry has needed an entirely new model of delivering security, not just another technology service that further fragments an already highly fragmented security network. Qu-Secure comprehensively addresses this issue while reducing other operational challenges that credit unions have experienced for years.”

Qu-Secure delivers a truly holistic security framework that protects and connects all credit union assets and member touchpoints, enabling credit unions to reduce complexity and infrastructure sprawl. Previously, layered security products created inconsistency across networks, and inconsistency created gaps easily targeted by attackers. Furthermore, the complexity of layered security products required increasingly intensive human and financial resources to manage, requiring significant investments that were exhaustive or simply untenable for many credit unions.

“To date, there has been no single, enterprise-wide solution for credit unions to protect their assets and their members,” said Babak Pasdar, founder and chief executive officer for Acreto and a globally recognized cybersecurity expert. “Past solutions frequently became obsolete within a few years, thus requiring credit unions to continually re-invest in a myriad of solutions to solve ever-evolving security challenges. The model simply wasn’t working, but this new security model bridges all of these gaps and helps credit unions exceed regulatory requirements.”

Qu-Secure leverages the Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) model, which converges all network and security solutions into a single cloud service that enables credit unions of all sizes to quickly secure all technological assets no matter where they are located. In the ever-evolving regulatory environment, SASE also enables rapid compliance with industry regulations without requiring significant investments in additional technologies that may soon be obsolete.

“This is truly a democratization of security and pivotal for this industry,” added Pasdar. “Effective security solutions have historically only been accessible to exceptionally large, top-tier financial institutions, and even those solutions had their weaknesses. Qu-Secure – which has been rigorously tested and proven successful – enables credit unions of all sizes to achieve new levels of technological security, compliance and cost savings.”

Qu-Secure was established through a partnership between Acreto and 121 Financial to provide credit unions with an entirely new approach to security. In seeking solutions to technology challenges, 121 Financial evaluated Acreto’s unique approach and realized how it addresses all current and emerging security challenges, resulting in a partnership that founded Qu-Secure to share this solution with other credit unions.
