The award honored 34 people who have contributed positively to the community, especially during the pandemic. Huq was one of four people in the banking industry recognized for her contributions to UT Arlington and the city of Arlington.

Huq was named a Shining Star for her dedicated support and volunteer efforts in the city of Arlington and UTA. During the pandemic, Huq was instrumental in creating virtual financial education programs to help Arlington business owners and consumers better manage their money.

Huq actively serves on a number of advisory boards and committees for the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce, the Asian Business Council, and the Greater Arlington Women’s Alliance. She has also played a crucial role in helping build a financial literacy program for the Arlington ISD Dan Diebert Career Tech Center. In addition, she is involved in initiatives bringing UTA athletics and the community together and is a mentor for the UTA Mavericks women’s basketball team.

“The Shining Stars Award is a platform to thank award recipients for their selfless contribution that has made an impact to the lives of many people,” said Kanti Suresh Shetty, President and Chair, Student Society of Real Estate, University of Texas Arlington. “This is our way of thanking these business leaders for their selfless contributions to the community.”

The Mavericks Community Shining Stars were recognized during a virtual awards ceremony sponsored by the UTA Student Society of Real Estate.
