And the award goes to…the members!

It’s the season of awards shows. From the Grammys to the Oscars, celebrities of screen and song have come together to honor the successes of the past year. But in spite of the glitz and glamor, there’s an important lesson that many celebrities have yet to learn: it’s not what you do that matters, it’s who you do it for that counts.
Without fans, a movie is destined to fail, and a concert hall will be empty. And without members, a credit union is just another building. But when people come together to support what they love, great things happen. The movie is a blockbuster, the show is a sellout, but the credit union does something more.
Perhaps better than any other institution, credit unions understand that the most important part of what they do is making their members happy. Like a musician who draws crowds with a popular song, a credit union unites members with a shared interest, be it work or community. Together, the members make the credit union great.
When credit union members unite, the results aren’t just for entertainment. Children are healed through the fundraising efforts of CU’s on behalf of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Homes are built through volunteer projects such as Habitat for Humanity. Food is donated to local families in need throughout the year, not just during the holiday season.
It’s this kind of inspired cooperation that touches the heart of a community. Rooting for the hero of a film is fun. Singing along to your favorite song at a performance is thrilling. But connecting with others in your community to make a difference is a life changing event.
Credit unions know what celebrities might never learn: the real stars are the fans.
