The state and foreign operations appropriations bill for fiscal year 2018 contains support for credit unions on the international level in its report language. CUNA and the World Council of Credit Unions wrote to House and Senate appropriators to push for international credit support last month, and the included language is stronger than language recommended by CUNA and the World Council.
“The Committee directs the USAID Administrator to consult with the Committees on Appropriations on cooperative development programs for financial systems including how the U.S. Agency for International Development is complying with the requirements of 22 U.S.C. § 2151i(2),” the report reads.
CUNA and the World Council has requested the report language “encourages USAID give high priority” to cooperative development programs.
