Steve is responsible for guiding strategic leadership for the credit union by partnering with the Board of Directors, leadership team, and staff in establishing long-range goals and strategic initiatives that provide superior member value. ...
Prior to joining Unitus, Steve served for eight years as the President/CEO of San Francisco Federal Credit Union, five years as Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer of Redwood Credit Union, and Senior Vice President/Operations of The Golden 1 Credit Union. In these positions, he was responsible for all aspects of credit union operations, including strategic planning, financial management, expansion and growth of new services and products, organizational development, brand awareness, business and consumer lending, and operations.
Steve earned a B.S. from Sacramento State University and completed his Certified Public Accountant accreditation while employed at KPMG as a Senior Manager. Steve has been a regular presenter in the credit union industry on strategic planning, growth initiatives, and the impacts of accounting and regulatory changes.
Additionally, Steve is the immediate past Board Chairman of the World Council of Credit Unions, which is the leading international credit union trade association and development arm for credit union systems in developing nations. Steve continues to be active in the developing credit unions throughout the world as a Board member of the Worldwide Foundation. He also serves on the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Northwest Credit Union Association and the Board of Currencē, which provides Visa debit/credit transaction services. Additionally, Steve serves on the Board of Trustees of WorldOregon, which builds a global understanding through cross-culture learning opportunities. In addition, Steve serves on both the WorldOregon and Northwest Credit Union Association Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Ad Hoc Committees.
In 2019, Steve was recognized by the Oregon Consular Corps as a Global Ambassador. Previously, Steve served as Chairman of Financial Service Centers Cooperative (FSCC) and Vice-Chairman of the CO-OP Shared Branch network. The Shared Branch network provides services to credit unions members throughout the United States and military institutions in foreign countries.
Steve is active on the CU4Kids Advisory Committee, which assists in fundraising for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon. He is also currently working with a consortium of credit unions in creating a unique partnership with Urban League of Portland in providing services to their clientele.
