Berger talks credit union issues with Crapo, Walker

NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger, in meetings Wednesday with Senate Banking Committee Chairman Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, and Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker, R-N.C., discussed the association’s pursuit of credit union regulatory relief, housing finance reform, national data security standards for merchants and more in the coming year.

Crapo, elected Senate Banking Committee chairman last week, has said he expects changes to the Dodd-Frank Act, housing market reforms and the reduction of financial institutions’ regulatory burdens during the coming year. Walker, just elected to his second term, was also elected chairman of the Republican Study Committee, which favors limited government and reduced spending.

“We appreciate the opportunity to meet with Chairman Crapo and Chairman Walker on issues important to the credit union industry,” said Berger. “NAFCU will utilize all channels available for achieving meaningful regulatory relief for credit unions and making a difference for Main Street America.”
