Credit Union Regulator Reports Progress In Diversity Efforts

NCUA’s Office of Minority and Women Inclusion reported progress in the agency’s efforts to promote diversity in management, employment and business activities in a report to Congress released this week.

The report says the agency has approved a diversity and inclusion strategic plan and increased workforce diversity at all levels of the agency. The agency said its diversity objectives also cover its procurement process, including the selection of suppliers and supplier diversity training of NCUA employees.

The report notes NCUA’s ranking as one of the “Best Places to Work” in the federal government rose from 16th place to sixth place last year. It also noted recognition the agency received as the “most improved” federal agency among medium-size agencies based on a federal employee survey by the Office of Personnel Management.

NCUA is part of an interagency working group formed under the Dodd-Frank Act to assess the diversity policies and practices of all regulated financial institutions. With respect to credit unions, the agency report shows diversity among credit union staff roughly corresponds with that of the civilian labor force.
