CUNA: Get out the vote for credit union community

Credit union-supported candidates around the country will be looking for another term in office or a first chance in office during Tuesday’s election. Support of these candidates is at an all-time high this election cycle, with the Credit Union National Association and the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) on pace for a record nearly $6 million in total expenditures.

CUNA is reminding credit union members around the country to get out and vote for candidates who have expressed support for the credit union system and its principles.

“The efforts of CUNA, the state credit union associations, CULAC and credit unions have surpassed those of any previous election, backing a bipartisan group of candidates that are attuned to credit union issues,” said Trey Hawkins, CUNA’s vice president of political affairs. “Many of these races are among the most tightly contested in the country, so we’re urging credit unions to get out to the polls and make their voices heard.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), one such supporter, is in a tight race with challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Kentucky secretary of state. A recent Bluegrass Poll put McConnell ahead by a small margin, 44% to 43% among likely voters.
