CUNA names Hampel Chief Policy Officer

CUNA Chief Economist Bill Hampel was named CUNA chief policy officer, a newly-created position, the trade group said Monday.
Hampel will provide policy advice to new CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle as well as Chief of Staff Rich Meade, on “key strategic initiatives of the nation’s largest trade group for credit unions,” CUNA said.
Hampel, one of the longest serving executives at the trade association, will remain chief economist in addition to the new chief policy officer role, which is effective immediately.
In June, Hampel was named interim president/CEO of CUNA after the departure of former president/CEO Bill Cheney. He served until September of this year when Nussle was named CEO.
