Demonstrating how relationships support successful advocacy
A focus on advocacy and nurturing relationships helps the Virginia Credit Union League and its member credit unions achieve long-term objectives. A recent Badcredit.org article examined credit union advocacy in Virginia, including how it serves stakeholders and advances the cooperative mission of credit unions.
“We make sure our members have the best market and policy environment possible. Anything we can do to provide support for one credit union ultimately helps the entire state,” said Virginia League Chief Advocacy Officer J.T. Blau.
The article traces the U.S. history of credit unions, and notes that America’s Credit Unions as a national association “works with the Virginia Credit Union League and dozens of state and regional associations to address the credit union industry’s multifaceted advocacy mission.”
“Some people think of advocacy as passing or killing bills, but it’s really about building relationships, so when the time comes, we don’t have to start with introductions,” Blau said.
