Equifax judge provides updates in class-action breach suit

The judge in the Equifax data breach lawsuit made several decisions and set deadlines last week for the case. CUNA filed its lawsuit in October, in response to a data breach that exposed information of as many as 145 million consumers.

Two tracks for litigation have been established, one for harmed consumers and one for credit unions, trade associations and other financial institutions. Currently, 19 leaguesand more than 30 credit unions are participating in the suit.

Any credit union interested in joining the litigation as a named plaintiff should make plans to do so by the end of January. In order to join using the team of firms headed by the New York firm of Scott & Scott, whom CUNA has retained to represent it, credit unions may email databreachlawsuit@cuna.coop.
