Homeownership has long been a pillar of the American Dream, but lately, it feels increasingly out of reach. Rising interest rates, high home prices, and a sense of economic instability have left many adults wondering whether it’s even worth trying.
And yet, for many, the dream still lingers.
At Zogo, we spend a lot of time listening to our user base. Through millions of app interactions, one thing has become clear: even with the current market challenges, the desire to one day own a home hasn’t gone away. It’s just shifted, becoming more cautious, more skeptical, and a little more complicated.
It’s not that first time home-buyers don’t care about owning a home. It’s that they don’t know how or if they’ll ever get there.
And that uncertainty creates space. Not for a hard sell, but for connection.
What we’re seeing from our partners
Some of the credit unions we work with have started leaning into that uncertainty, not to push mortgage products, but to start conversations. Through education. Through content. Through relatable tools that break down credit, savings, and lending in a way that feels approachable instead of overwhelming.
We’ve seen credit unions use financial education not as a box to check, but as a bridge. A way to show up early in the member journey and say, “You’re not alone in figuring this out.”
And while not every engagement turns into a loan application tomorrow, what we’ve heard, and what the data supports, is that members remember who helped them feel more informed . . . more confident . . . more in control.
We're all figuring it out
We’re not here to say we have the silver button solution. But we are here, watching this shift unfold, and we’re constantly learning from the innovative, human-first approaches we see in this space.
Because even in a market that feels broken, the dream of homeownership still matters. And when members are ready to act on that dream, they’ll likely turn to the institutions that helped them understand it in the first place.
If you’re exploring ways to meet members earlier in that journey, we’d love to be part of the conversation.
