ICU Day 2020 brings global recognition to financial first responders

Credit unions are inspiring hope around the world for their members and community — and that’s a cause for celebration!

By sticking to their ‘people-helping-people’ roots, credit unions worldwide have been a source of hope for their members and community throughout the pandemic. International Credit Union Day (ICU Day), happening on October 15, gives credit unions a chance to come closer together with other credit unions and their members while bringing global recognition to credit unions for their contributions as financial first responders during the pandemic.

There are many untold stories about credit unions doing the right thing during these trying times. Some are providing assistance directly related to financial services, demonstrating ingenuity to evolve products and services that meet unique member needs during this crisis. Other examples go way beyond business as usual and reveal the deep-rooted commitment that credit unions have to the well-being of their communities.

Examples of credit union assistance amid COVID-19 pandemic:

  • Flexible HELOC loans
  • Higher ATM withdrawal and mobile check deposit limits
  • Zero-interest loans for those impacted by COVID-19
  • COVID-19 safety-related communications
  • Food drives to stock local food pantries
  • Hosting a virtual prom

It’s easy to see why this year’s selected ICU Day theme is ‘Inspiring hope for a global community.’ These uplifting stories deserve to be shared to remind people that credit unions are there for them during and after the pandemic — to inspire hope. Find ways to energize your ICU Day plans under the #ICUDay hashtag. And, when you celebrate the credit union difference on October 15 for International Credit Union Day, share your story using #ICUDay.
